為什么結婚時要貼“囍”字？

常見人們家有婚嫁喜慶時，總喜歡在門窗上、房間內和嫁妝上貼個大紅“囍”字，並且漸漸成為佈置婚禮的標幟。不過，為什么結婚時要貼“囍”字呢？

“囍”，俗稱雙喜，有喜慶雙重的意思。大多用于婚嫁等喜慶場合，一般用紅紙或金箔剪製，也有人寫在紅紙上再貼在門窗廳堂上。這種辦喜事貼雙喜字的習俗，據說源于宋朝宰相、大文學家王安石。

相傳王安石年輕時赴京趕考，途中到馬家鎮他舅舅家住宿。一天，飯后到鎮上散步，偶見馬員外家門上貼了一副對聯的上聯：“走馬燈，燈馬走，燈熄馬停步。”原來，這是馬員外的獨生女為自己挑選夫婿所出的上聯，已掛了半年，至今沒有人能對出下聯來。王安石因要趕考，也無暇思索下聯，所以未予理會。

到了應考日，王安石在考場上態度從容，答題時一揮而就。主考官見其年輕意氣風發，對其印象深刻並非常賞識他，后來主考官傳其面試。王安石對于主考官的提問，都能胸有成竹，對答如流。

最后主考官手指廳前的飛虎旗說：“飛虎旗，虎旗飛，旗卷虎藏身。”王安石知道這是要他對出下聯，忽然想起馬員外家門前的上聯，不加思索地答道：“走馬燈，燈馬走，燈熄馬停步。”主考官驚嘆不已，頻頻點頭。

考完后，王安石回馬家鎮並來到馬員外家，就以主考官的“飛虎旗”為下聯，對馬小姐的上聯“走馬燈”。王安石對的下聯讓馬小姐十分滿意，于是馬員外開心地將女兒嫁給他。

到了成親大喜當日，忽然兩個報子來報喜，是報王安石金榜題名的好消息。王安石真是春風得意，不但高中進士，還娶了才貌雙全的千金為妻，可說是雙喜臨門。因此，王安石便一連寫了兩個大紅喜字，還把兩個喜字併貼在大門上，高興地吟道：“巧對聯成雙喜歌，馬燈飛虎結絲羅。”

從此以后，人們習慣在結婚辦喜事時貼紅雙喜字，不僅在門上、牆上貼大紅“囍”字，被褥枕頭上也繡“囍”字，祈求事事吉祥如意。而這個風俗就一直流傳至今，也成了華人特有的民間習俗。
